Second JRPG developed by Square Co., Ltd. (later [[Square Enix]]) for the [[Final Fantasy]] series. It was first released on the Famicom (NES) system on 17 December 1988. It was later ported on the WonderSwan Color (2001), PlayStation (2002) [its first-ever English release], Game Boy Advance (2004), mobile phones (2005), PlayStation Portable (2007), and Apple products (2010). The game follows the exploits of the Wild Rose Rebellion, specifically those of the orphan [[Frioniel]] and his friends, as they free the world from the clutches of the Palamecian Empire and its tyrannical leader, [[emperor_(ff2)|Emperor Mateus Palamecia]]. Not to be confused with [i][[final_fantasy_iv|FFIV]][/i], which was initially released in the USA as the "second" game in the series. h4.
