A character's [[ahoge]] is colored differently from the rest of the hair. The second color has to dominate the majority of the ahoge, rather than just the tip. If that happens, use [[colored tips]] instead. If the ahoge's color is also present in the rest of the hair (post #4936595), just use [[two-tone hair]] and/or [[multicolored hair]].
