She has brown eyes|golden-brown eyes and brown hair with white and black streaked_hair|streaks on her sidelocks. An ahoge sticks out of the top of her head. Her bangs are secured by a runes|rune hairclip.

Her default costume has her wearing her very_long_hair|long hair in a ponytail, held in place with a feather_hair_ornament|feather hairtie. Her brown_cloak|cloak consists of a brown_capelet|capelet secured by a ribbon and a longer cape that splits like the feathers of a wing. She wears a white_shirt|white buttoned shirt on her torso with a cleavage cutout that is only visible when she takes her cloak off, and a brown corset around her waist. She also wears gloves that are partially fingerless gloves|fingerless on her index and pinky fingers. She has a belt wrapped around her waist with a lantern, pouch, and small dagger hanging from it. Below her outfit is a red skirt|red pleated skirt. She has asymmetrical legwear|asymmetrical leggings with a single thighhigh on her thigh strap|left leg as well as a single kneehigh on her knee strap|right, and wears brown ankle boots.

Her official alternate costume|second outfit (post #5058100) has her wearing her hair short hair|short with her bangs partially braided bangs|braided, and consists of a feathered beret, a white kimono|white floral print|floral print kimono with wide sleeves, white lace gloves, and accompanying red shawl. Friend (nanashi mumei)| also wears a top hat and bowtie. She also carries a basket with an owl named Hootsie (nanashi mumei)| inside of it.

h4. Personality
Despite her seemingly innocent and clueless demeanor at debut, time has shown Mumei to be rather sharp-witted and prone to behaving erratically. She occasionally shows a "psychopathic" side, tormenting her enemies (or even her friends) while appearing calm and collected. She is also fond of trolling others, and will do things like intentionally fail at a game to spite the in-game characters, her chat, or her opponents.

In spite of this, she seems to get along well with just about everyone in Hololive, especially her genmates in Holocouncil.

It is common to see her paired in a yuri relationship with her genmate Ouro Kronii, due to their tendency to flirt with each other in collab streams and because Kronii's "gap moe" (cool, calm demeanor betraying a softer cuter side) is an effective contrast to Mumei's personality (cute demeanor betraying a calm collected side). This is especially apparent in horror game streams where Kronii is quite easy to scare and Mumei generally does not react at all.

A slightly less common but still popular ship also pairs her with Ceres Fauna, both because of the cute "mother-daughter" relationship they tend to surface in on-stream collaborations and because of the lore significance of civilization's complex relationship with nature.

She is able to draw realistic animal art (post #4742503), and has a habit of drawing "nightmare fuel" of herself and other members (see Nanashi Mumei's horror painting).

Artists sometimes depict her as an owl, in which case one should use the tag Nanashi Mumei (owl).
