A 2012 remake of the original Uchuu Senkan Yamato science fiction anime TV series from the 1970s_(style)|70s. It is produced by Production IG and animated by XEBEC.

It was released as 7 animated movies in Japanese cinemas as well as Blu-ray and DVD volumes from April 2012 onwards. The 26 episodes aired again on TV after all the volumes were released.

The new series is notable because it re-tells the events from the original series' first season, but with brand new animation techniques and more modern character, spacecraft and mecha designs. It also introduced many new female characters.
