Its lifespan can be pinpointed to three generations: the AW11 (essentially a backwards Corolla Levin/Sprinter Trueno, powered by either a naturally-aspirated 4A-GE or supercharged 4A-GZE engine), the SW20 (a larger platform powered by either a naturally-aspirated 3S-GE or turbocharged 3S-GTE engine), and the ZZW30 (at which point its name was changed to MR-S, now exclusively powered by the naturally-aspirated 1ZZ-FE engine).
