Songkran is Thailand’s most famous festival. Songkran Festival takes place in April every year, from the 13th to the 15th. The name Songkran comes from a Sanskrit word meaning ‘passing’ or ‘approaching’. It coincides with the rising of Aries on the astrological chart and with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia, in keeping with the Hindu Calendar and Buddhist calendar. Water is an important element of Songkran and celebrations are famous for the public water fights framed as ritual cleansing. h4.
