She is part of an idol group known as Squid Sisters (Sea O' Colors in the Japanese release) with the other member being her cousins|cousin Callie (splatoon)|. She and Callie are also both news program hostesses that announce in-game news.

She wears a green and black-themed outfit matching Callie's and wears a food cup on her head. Often drawn with a more melancholic expression compared to her cousin.

Her Japanese name comes from the Japanese word for the "firefly squid":en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watasenia_scintillans (蛍烏賊/ホタルイカ Hotaru-ika) and their band's name in Japanese is a portmanteau of "shiokara" (a Japanese food made out of various marine animals, commonly squid) and "colors". She and Callie's names in English are a play on the word calamari.
