The player character and the only human character in the [[Animal Crossing]] franchise. May be either male or female. Initially sported [[hat]]s (horned for males, pointed for females), but have since become progressively customizable. A male villager with default features debuted as a fighter in the [[Super Smash Bros.]] games for the [[Wii U]] and [[Nintendo 3DS]]. Due to his series-standard equipment (shovel, butterfly net, axe) and static, unmoving expression, he has been jokingly characterized as a psychopath in fan media. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the player character is known as the Mayor. h4.
