The PKP "Pecheneg" (Russian: Печенег) is a Russian machine gun chambered for the 7.62x54mmR round. It superseded the older [[pk_machine_gun|PK]] and [[PKM]] machine guns in Russian service in 2001. It can be most easily distinguished from the earlier PKs by its carry handle - the PK and PKM have an L-shaped carry handle protruding above the receiver, while the PKP has an enclosed loop-shaped carry handle sitting flush at the same height as the receiver.
