A jester was historically a [[medieval]] to [[Renaissance]] era entertainer who entered the [[house]] of a nobleman or monarch and was employed to entertain guests. They were also traveling entertainers who entertained ordinary people at [[festival]]s and [[town]]s. It is thought that jesters wore brightly colored clothes and eccentric [[hat]]s in a mottled pattern when really that was what only amateur jesters did. The jester's other characteristics were their way of [[laughing]] and their mock [[scepter]].
