Latin: Cyanocitta cristata Japanese: アオカケス aokakesu The blue jay is blue with a white chest & underparts and a blue crest. It has a black, U-shaped collar which dips down across the neck and extends to the ear area behind the crest and a dark, strong, all-purpose bill. Native to North America, the blue jay is noisy, bold and aggressive, and may even chase away larger birds of prey. Like all jays, it is a member of the crow family. If a bird is blue but lacks the white face and chest and the black U-marking, and if it does not have a crest, it is not a blue jay. h4.
