A former comrade of gintoki_sakata, katsura_kotarou and sakamoto_tatsuma during the Amanto invasion, and a major antagonist of the gintama series.

He leads the Kiheitai, an extremist Joui faction bent on world destruction, comprising of him, kawakami_bansai, kijima_matako and takechi_henpeita.

Takasugi is short in stature. He has short black or dark-purple_hair covering one of his green_eyes (red in the manga). He wears bandages covering his forehead and left eye and is usually seen wearing a purple, butterfly-patterned kimono and occasionally a haori jacket to go with. Often seen smoking a kiseru.

Takasugi frequently gets called a chuunibyou and a midget by gintoki.
