It was first released on March 4, 2000, in [[Japan]], and then was released on October 26, 2000 in North America, and November 24, 2000 in Europe. The second in Sony's line of [[Playstation]] consoles, developed for the sixth generation market to compete against Microsoft's [[Xbox]], Nintendo [[GameCube]] and [[Sega Dreamcast]]. The PS2 is hailed as [b]the best selling console of all time[/b], having reached over 154.4 million units sold as of November 21, 2011.
