Tag type: General

When there is clearly another character involved with a scene, but that character is not seen at all; not a faceless_male or faceless_female, not even a disembodied_hand or disembodied_penis.

The character's presence is revealed or acknowledged because it is shown what they are saying (the most frequent case, which often overlaps with offscreen_character), 'cause they are throwing something into the frame or scene, 'cause their shadow or genitalia is shown, 'cause they are being talked to over the phone or an object that they may or may not be holding is extended into the frame (such as a leash or whip.)

Note that unseen characters usually do not count towards determining the character count (solo_focus, duo, etc.) if they're completely out of frame.
