Downloading without clicking on the image will download a low resolution thumbnail.
May be from posts uploaded before proper multi-image support, resulting in all images after the first being downsized to a "comment"-scale image.
Images after multi-image support may be images in unsupported .webp format.
Opening images in a new tab, then changing the link's text at the end to "png" will load a supported image format.
