A sapient alien species created by Ausfer on the Furry Diffusion Discord. Ausfer's Description: Lyeens originate from Lyuten b, a colonized mining planet. It is a tidally locked super-Earth with the only habitable zone being a ring around the planet that is permanently shrouded in dim red sunlight. Lyeens are alien hybrids created as a domesticated offshoot of the dominant predator on the planet -- the scaly, monstrous Luyten Howler. Using advanced gene editing technology, the Howler's genome was spliced with various earth animals, including the dog and goat, vastly changing appearance and temperament. Lyeens are engineered to recognize the scent of humans and innately consider us to be "friend-shaped". They were also engineered udders, as ruminant mammals such as cows and goats cannot thrive on the rocky landscape (lyeen cheese is known for its savory flavor). Lyeens are used as beasts of burden, pest control, guard dogs, and pets. They are highly intelligent, social creatures with considerable strength due to the planet's high gravity. They have a curious, mischievous nature and tend to create mayhem if mentally understimulated. They can learn to understand human language fairly well, but lyeens cannot speak (though they often like to try!). They communicate to humans with yowls, yips, and body language. Lyeens explore the world through their prehensile tongues, picking up objects to examine them. Non-reproductive sexual activity is a source of social bonding between packmates, used to de-escalate aggression and strengthen pack ties. This behavior was carried over from the Lyuten Howler, and has proven difficult to discourage. The Planetary Administration of Lyuten b highly recommends to keep lyeens together in male/female pairs so they focus their social bonding activities on each other rather than humans! However, since only females give milk, there is a severe gender imbalance in lyeen populations. Lyeens are genetically sterile.
