[b]Donkey[/b] first appeared in the original "[[Shrek]]" film released in 2001. Donkey is cheerful, talkative, and often provides comic relief. Despite his tendency to be annoying, he is also incredibly loyal and supportive, especially to Shrek. Donkey forms an unlikely friendship with Shrek, the ogre, despite Shrek's initial reluctance. Their relationship becomes a central theme throughout the series. Donkey falls in love with and eventually marries Dragon ([[Dragon_(Shrek)]], a character introduced in the first film.
