I-13, is the first of only two Type-AM submarines actually completed (alongside i-14 (kancolle)|sister-ship I-14), as portrayed in Kantai Collection. Like other submarines with numbers instead of names, she has a "goroawase":[en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_wordplay#Goroawase] nickname, "Hitomi".

h4. Personality
"Hitomi" has a cripplingly shy personality that lacks any self-confidence, with her in-game lines broken by pauses as she struggles to continue speaking up, likely due to her ship's very short history. Her in-game lines also connect her firmly to her sister-ship, I-14/"Iyo", with Hitomi, somewhat like zara (kancolle)|Zara, being unable to rein in her younger sister.

h4. Appearance
I-13 has brown_eyes|brown tsurime eyes and short_hair|short black hair with hair_between_eyes|bangs that come down between the eyes, and a asymmetrical_hair|single long strand on her left side (contrasting with her sister-ship's right). I-13 wears a school swimsuit with "イ１３" emblazoned over her hip. Over this, she wears a serafuku-style shirt with breast_cutout|a large cut-out for her chest.

On her head, she wears headphones with a hat shaped like a submarine's bow. On her arms, she has a miniature "submarine sail":[en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sail_(submarine)] strapped to her right upper arm, and partially fingerless gloves on her hands. Metal rings are on her thighs, and she wears toeless high heel boots whose heels are ship keels.

h4. History
The historical IJN I-13 had a severely short history, being commissioned only on December 16th, 1944, after the Imperial Japanese Navy had already lost its capacity to contest the USN's advance at "Leyte Gulf":[en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Leyte_Gulf]. The only mission I-13 attempted to undertake was "a mission to secretly deliver":[codenames.info/operation/hikari/] a pair of C6N Saiun aircraft to the Truk Naval Base. After departing for its first mission on July 11th, 1945, I-13 was never heard from again, and was presumed sunk in an anti-submarine warfare operation performed by the escort carrier USS Anzio on July 16th. Her abyssal counterpart (Abyssal Twin Princess (white)) is also presumed killed by the player in her final form and it references the real life I-13's fate.

Fans have taken notice that her and I-14's hat look very similar to the Pokémon Garchomp.
